It’s the ultimate Uganda expedition.
Tour Plan
Touch down at Entebbe International Airport, located right beside Africa’s largest lake, Lake Victoria. Uganda’s atmosphere hits different here: warm tropical air, palm-lined avenues, and calm lakeside breezes. Settle into your lodge and shake off the travel fatigue. If time allows, you may explore the Entebbe Botanical Gardens or take in a golden-hour stroll along the lakefront. Overnight prepares you for a week packed with adventure and nature immersion.
Travel east through lush countryside, sugarcane fields, and local roadside trading centers buzzing with fresh fruit vendors and boda-bodas. On arrival in Jinja, step onto the historic point where the Nile begins its 6,650 km journey northward, making it the world’s longest river. Learn about early explorers like John Speke, who identified this iconic source. Spend the evening overlooking river rapids and soaking in laid-back Jinja energy at Haven Lodge.
Kick off with a comprehensive safety briefing and practical paddle drills led by internationally certified instructors. Glide onto the river and begin taming Grade III–IV rapids, ideal for building confidence and teamwork as you paddle through foamy waves and swirling channels. In calmer sections, enjoy river swimming, drifting, and observing riverbank wildlife such as kingfishers and monkeys. Evening relaxation at your lodge gives you time to relive your first Nile triumphs.
Spend a full day exploring Kibale Forest, home to over 250 bird species. Guided walks take you under the dense canopy and along forest trails to spot African Green Broadbill, Green-breasted Pitta, White-naped Pigeon, and Great Blue Turaco. There are also excellent opportunities to see primates, including Red Colobus Monkeys and Chimpanzees. Overnight at the lodge.
Today is where legends are made. Conquer some of the Nile's legendary Grade V rapids like The Bad Place and Nile Special, famous among pro kayakers globally. Experience dramatic drops, towering waves, and pure adrenaline balanced with serene floating stretches. Take a cliff jump into deep river pools and enjoy riverside picnic breaks in shaded forest sections. As the sun sets, relax around a bonfire swapping stories with fellow adventurers.
Visit the spectacular Itanda Falls, where thunderous rapids roar through rocky channels and spiritual shrines sit hidden nearby, protected by local Basoga communities. Then begin the scenic road trip north, passing rolling farmlands, vibrant rural towns, and the Albertine Rift landscapes. Arrive at Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest and one of Africa’s oldest conservation areas. Settle in at a safari lodge as wildlife calls echo through the savannah night.
Start at sunrise with a game drive across open savannah, Borassus palm-studded plains, and acacia woodlands, keeping watch for elephants, lions, giraffes, buffalo, Uganda kob, and elusive leopards. In the afternoon, board a boat along the Victoria Nile and cruise toward the base of Murchison Falls. Along the riverbanks, spot pods of hippos, basking crocodiles, and incredible birdlife like the African fish eagle and shoebill (if lucky). The sight of the Nile exploding through a narrow gorge is unmatched.
Stand at the edge of the world’s most powerful waterfall as 300 cubic meters of water per second shoots through a 7-meter-wide cleft and crashes thunderously below. Feel the mist and ground vibration beneath your feet. After capturing that magic, drive south toward Fort Portal, Uganda’s tourism crown jewel, surrounded by volcanic crater lakes and tea plantations. Enjoy cool mountain breezes and views of the mystical Rwenzori Mountains (Mountains of the Moon).
Head into Kibale Forest, home to over 13 primate species including chimpanzees, red colobus, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and black-and-white colobus. Optional chimpanzee tracking lets you follow experts who help you locate, watch, and photograph chimps swinging, grooming, and calling through the canopy. Later, explore Bigodi Wetlands, known for its rich birdlife such as the Great Blue Turaco and community-run conservation efforts. Learn about local traditions, crafts, and forest-based culture.
Roll back toward Jinja and switch from wild jungles to relaxed river life again. Settle into your lodge and choose your vibe: lazy hammock time, gentle river kayaking, mountain biking through village trails, or stand-up paddle boarding on calm Nile waters. Jinja has a contagious chill atmosphere with craft shops, lakeside cafes, and evening riverside breeze that resets the mind after days of intense exploration.
Enjoy one final riverside breakfast before departing. On the return drive, stop at roadside fruit stalls for fresh pineapple, mango, and roasted plantain. Depending on your flight schedule, you may visit Kampala craft markets or cultural sites. Arrive at the airport with stunning memories, heart-thumping adventure stories, and a new appreciation for Uganda’s blend of river power, wildlife, and lush landscapes.
